Day 27 - PV - We're Switching It Up!

I've been struggling with this diet lately... mentally and - apparently - physically as my weight has not changed in about a week. I've not cheated at all... but I have been mentally unfaithful to the plan... maybe that inner doubt is manifesting on the scale? I don't know...

In any case, I went back to the book - and saw that, for people with only a little weight to lose, a more doable rhythm for the Cruise phase is the 2/5 rhythm: 2 days of Pure Protein (Mondays and Thursdays), 5 days of Protein + Vegetables. For some reason, I feel more successful on the PV days - perhaps because its easier to stick to it and feel satisfied... PP days end up being a hodgepodge of whatever meat products I can throw together on a plate. Not very appetizing. The 2/5 rhythm will also set me up for both the Consolidation and Stabilization phases where Pure Protein only happens a few times/ once a week.

In addition to my struggles with the diet portion - I've been REALLY struggling with the daily activity component. It's difficult to get out for a walk every day - I know that sounds pathetic and unbelievable, but it's true. SO - I'm going back to my daily Jillian Michaels regimen - probably going to do the 30 Day Shred again. Originally, when I began the Dukan Diet, I wanted to do everything exactly as Dr. Dukan described... since, in addition to losing weight, I was interested to see if the plan actually worked as written. But, it's getting to the point now where I want to get OFF the cruise stage... and anything I can do to speed that process along, I'm going to do ..... purity of the experiment be damned!! I'm also starting to lose some of the muscle definition in my arms that I had gained while doing Jillian workouts consistently before beginning Dukan - and I don't just want to be thin, I want to be TONED.

So - to recap - we're now doing Mondays and Thursdays PP, and the remaining days of the week PV - with 30 Day Shred daily. Hopefully that will kick this process into high gear.

  1. I think the walking every day is for people who have never exercised. I have done two rounds of p90x and just bought Turbofire. I really wanted an easier program for the summer and one that won't be extremely time-consuming. If anything, the weight/cardio/circuit training will help your metabolism and you'll lose more weight! :)

  2. yes, when I read the book before beginning the diet - Dr. Dukan did specifically say that the reduced caloric intake would result in reduced energy/ ability to do strenuous exercise - so he said that walking was the only exercise that was *required*. However, maybe he was talking to people who lived in the beautiful French countryside... and not to people who live in the pseudo-shady neighborhoods of Chicago! Ha!
