Welcome!

So, I've decided to do The Dukan Diet... as  you might notice from that nifty little weight loss ticker up top, I'm currently at a "healthy" weight (at least according to my BMI) ... but, after seeing the fabulous and stylish Kate Middleton in her wedding gown, I was overcome with the desire to get back down to my college weight of 130.

 I bought "The Dukan Diet" book by Dr. Pierre Dukan - apparently some sort of nutrition guru in France (although, I have to question this status... since what self-respecting French person endorses a diet that denies cheese, bread, and alcohol?! Quel Horror!!) and am reading the book cover to cover before I officially begin the diet tomorrow.

The first phase - rather hilariously named the "ATTACK!!" phase... is basically an all protein diet. Dr. Dukan dictates that one may consume LEAN meats in unlimited quantities as well as fat-free dairy and some soy products including tofu and seitan (whatever the hell THAT is). In addition to what I've surreptitiously labelled the "meat-stravaganza" - you must consume 1.5 liters of water - but some of this may be consumed in the form of tea or coffee, and you must eat 1.5 tbsp of Oat Bran a day. Dukan recommends a delightfully French sounding concoction known as the Dukan Oat Bran Galette... it remains to be seen if said "Galette" tastes as delightful as its name sounds. (My initial guess would be probably not!)

The "ATTACK!!!" phase can last anywhere from 2 - 7 days - depending on how much weight you need/ want to lose. In order to calculate how long my "ATTACK!!!" (giggle!) should last I visited the Dukan Diet Website  and answered a short questionnaire. According to the True Weight Calculator ... I should do this first phase for 3 days whereupon, I should lose roughly 4 lbs. We'll see about that I guess.

I am currently formulating my grocery list... and will head to the store later today. I will upload that list when finalized... and provide a daily menu list for anyone wishing to try this themselves. I will also update daily as I weigh myself. Let's hope that this Dukan guy is legit! :)

  2. well, I'll (hopefully) be done with the actual weight loss part by then - but I will (again, hopefully) be able to provide you with some guidance! Looks like it could be a way to take off some baby weight in short order. Sounds like it is popular in UK too! :)
